Help your employees

Benefits of Training

The safety benefits of training courses are clear. Throughout the workday, employees may end up in particularly hazardous environments. Anything you can do to keep them safe and out of harm’s way is worthwhile. It also makes economic sense, too, since fewer injuries means fewer payouts for compensation.

Aside from cost savings and prevented injuries, employee training can also help employees:

  • Feel more confident and comfortable in the workplace.
  • Be more satisfied in their jobs with a safer workplace that also encourages their professional development.
  • Advance in their careers by gaining more knowledge and expertise in their field.
  • Understand the value behind the safety tasks they perform each day.

All of these aspects can become cost benefits, too. Happier employees are more likely to stick around and their training stays in the company.

Courses

Our training programs are certified by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE), and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

We also have endorsements by the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) and, of course, OSHA. Most of our courses qualify for CEU credit hours with a hands-on experiences and can be conducted at our facility or yours.

This six-hour course is where we got our start and is critical to understanding the hazards of small, enclosed locations. Permit-required confined spaces pose significant and specific dangers to the employees who enter them. In this training, workers learn about:

  • The scope of OSHA’s space standards and how to identify a confined space and its dangers.
  • The requirements for a permit-required confined space entry program.
  • The responsibilities of all parties involved, including entrants, attendants and entry supervisors.
  • Identifying when rescue and emergency services are required.

We host a full–day Confined Space Entry training class at MTech on the second Friday of each month. MTech is one of just two companies in the region to offer Confined Space Entry training. Contact us to sign up.

In a four-hour training course, we provide a refresh on Confined Space Entry to keep everyone knowledgeable and informed on how to work with confined spaces. This course is approved by the Ohio EPA and Michigan EGLE.

Whether your workers are consistently or infrequently on elevated surfaces, they need to know about fall protection. This class will help participants understand the risks associated with falls, which is one of the most pressing hazards in construction environments.

Attendees will learn:

  • How to identify fall and struck-by hazards.
  • The methods of preventing injuries and falls with PPE and safe practices.
  • How to use and inspect a personal fall arrest system, guardrail and other safety systems.

This course is approved by the Ohio EPA and Michigan EGLE.

Locating utility lines is a common practice on many worksites, and doing so safely is critical for the safety of the employees and the general public. Attendees will learn:

  • How to accurately locate a utility line and other potential hazards.
  • The components of a visual walkthrough inspection.
  • How to use the appropriate technology to find and mark underground utilities.
  • About “Call Before You Dig” laws.

In this course, workers learn the ins and outs of operating complex sewer trucks so they can perform their jobs safely and quickly. This course is approved by the Michigan EGLE.

Sewer trucks are a unique type of machinery. In addition to operation, they have safety and maintenance needs that require specially trained technicians. With this course, employees can more readily stay safe during routine care and keep machinery in good condition. This course is approved by the Michigan EGLE.

This combination course covers several programs of NASSCO certification:

  • Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program (PACP).**
  • Manhole Assessment and Certification Program (MACP).
  • Lateral Assessment and Certification Program (LACP).

Attendees learn about identifying defects and maintaining a standardized, consistent pipeline system. They’ll go through coding procedures, inspections and various conditions.

This course will provide a basic education on vacuum excavation technology. This is still a technology that is newer to many end users and it can be very dangerous if not done properly. We review all of the critical safety procedures you must follow including identifying the pressure ratings of your underground utilities, proper PPE needed, and safe operation of a high powered vacuum and water system. We also dive into the advantages of the technology and the different applications it can be used to replace traditional excavation and why it is safer and more efficient. We will then take time to differentiate and educate on both air excavation and hydro excavation and what the best applications are for both technologies. Both technologies are critical for the future operations in both the drinking water and wastewater industries. Applications range from repairing a water main break to lead line verification to digging up a sewer lateral or repairing a sewer main and many more.
